Four people were taken to local hospitals after an apparent shooting involving two vehicles that crashed into each other multiple times Tuesday night on Washougal River Road.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies responded at 10:48 p.m. to the 40700 block of Southeast Washougal River Road for reports of a disturbance with a weapon.

A 911 caller reported hearing gunshots and said that a man was walking along the road saying his vehicle had been shot, according to a sheriff’s office news release. The man appeared to have injuries to his upper body.

Deputies found evidence that two vehicles crashed into each other multiple times along a 2-mile stretch of Washougal River Road, the sheriff’s office said. They also found evidence of firearms in both vehicles.

No one appeared to have been struck by gunfire, according to the news release. The sheriff’s office did not release the nature of the injuries to the four people taken to the hospital.

A Washougal man, identified as Thomas R. Malcom, 49, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of three counts of first-degree assault.

Detectives have applied for search warrants for both vehicles, the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office’s traffic and tactical detective units are continuing to investigate.
