A 24-year-old Vancouver man died from his injuries after he was hit by an SUV in a crosswalk Friday morning in Orchards.
Levi E. Adolph-Collin was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, where he later died, according to a Sunday update from the Washington State Patrol.
Adolph-Collin worked at the Orchards Grocery Outlet, and owners Carlos Rodriguez-Vega and Kenneth Cole shared kind words about the 24-year-old on Facebook.
“For more than six years, we watched him overcome many obstacles,” the Facebook post states. “A shy, introspective kid grew to become a spirited, funny and dedicated man. His humor and silly antics will be missed.”
The post said Adolph-Collin was on his way to work Friday morning when he was hit by the SUV and that he died at the hospital Saturday.
“His drawings and artwork will be forever in our minds,” Rodriguez-Vega and Cole said on Facebook. “His curiosity and desire to learn new things will be remembered, too. We will always be grateful for his hard work and the loyalty he demonstrated to us on a daily basis.”
Washington State Patrol troopers responded at 5:18 a.m. to the intersection of state Highway 503 and Northeast 71st Street.
A Lincoln Navigator, driven by Robert V. Metcalf, 65, of Vancouver, was traveling south on Highway 503 approaching 71st Street and ran a red light, according to a State Patrol crash memo.
A bicyclist, identified as Adolph-Collin, was in the crosswalk riding east on 71st Street when he was hit by the SUV, the crash memo states.
Metcalf was not injured.
The crash memo states the cause of the crash is under investigation.
