Atmospheric chaos. Cool air along the coast, unstable monsoonal moisture from California and the desert Southwest. Result? Increased humidity, poor air quality and sprinkles of brief heavy showers. Fog along the coast. Thunderstorms over and east of the Cascades.
August arrived with all those ingredients on Monday. Light rain in downtown Vancouver around noon kept temperatures in the mid-70s but clear skies in late afternoon shot the mercury back near 90 degrees. Rainfall only totaled a trace officially.
We had eight days over 90 degrees through Sunday. Portland set a record as its records only go back to 1940 at the airport. No record for us. When we discussed this week’s weather the other day it appeared it would be much cooler than it is looking now. I thought it would dip below average, maybe in the upper-70s. Not now. We stay in the mid-80s the next few days. Thursday is the coolest around 80 degrees.
Beginning Saturday forecast models heat us up well into the 90s with maybe 97 degrees on Sunday. Say it isn’t so friends. It is summer however and we are in the warmest time of the summer. If going to the Clark County Fair, go early. It looks like this weekend to escape the heat. It always seems like we have hot weather during that time. There is still a chance forecast charts may be too high with temperatures. We can only hope.
