BATTLE GROUND — Pepper Kim hosted a program presentation during the April 7 meeting of the Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington, Chapter 19, at the Battle Ground Community Center. As an art instructor and teacher for many years, Pepper did extensive research in Native American art and culture. She highlights the many forms of art used by early tribes and their intricate designs depicting life form and stories. Her slide presentation included the work of local carver Chief Lelooska along with his family museum in Ariel.
In keeping with the objectives of the group “to encourage and promote historical research in relation to pioneer days,” programs of interest are presented at regular meetings held the first Thursday of each month. The group usually meets at the Battle Ground Community Center, but verification is advised by contacting: pioneerdaughter19@gmail.com. Membership is open to pioneer descendants who established their residence in Washington during the year 1889 or before.
