Prep Highlights: Battle Ground baseball goes extras for crucial 4A GSHL victory

Jack Hotchkiss finished a three-hit night with a game-winning double as Battle Ground baseball beat Skyview 5-4 in eight innings on Thursday.

With the win in their regular-season finale, the Tigers clinch the second of three postseason berths in the 4A Greater St. Helens League.

Skyview needs Camas to beat Union on Friday for its playoff hopes to stay alive.

Timothy Linster pitched five innings of solid relief, striking out eight an allowing one unearned run for Battle Ground.

Stars of the day

  • Kya Jenkins, Skyview softball, hit two home runs and had five RBI in a 8-0 win over Union.
  • Nathanael Merritt, Prairie baseball, threw a complete game, allowing five hits and one walk in a 3-0 win over Kelso.
  • Sam Boyle, Columbia River baseball, struck out 15, walked none and allowed just two hits in a complete-game win over Hockinson, 7-1. He also went 3 for 4 with two RBI.
  • Andrew Hegewald, Woodland baseball, went 3 for 3, including a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the seventh in a 6-1 win over Fort Vancouver.
  • Emily Hughes, Woodland softball, went 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple, a double and four RBI in a 17-7 win over Washougal.
  • Jade Hayslip, Prairie softball, had 17 strikeouts, no walks and allowed six hits in a 4-2 win over Mark Morris.
  • Alex Harris, Columbia River boys soccer, scored three goals and one assist in a 8-0 win over Hudson’s Bay.
  • Cole Cuypers, Evergreen baseball, went 3 for 4 with a triple, double and two runs scored in a 7-0 win over Heritage.
