WOODLAND — A confrontation among young people Friday in Woodland left a 19-year-old Clark County man dead.

A teenage boy was arrested in the case, though charges have not been determined.

Nathaniel G. Anderson died at the hospital from head injuries after the teen struck him with a vehicle in the 4000 block of Dike Road, near a popular Columbia River beach, the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Deputies were called to the area at 11:30 p.m. Friday after a group allegedly tried to confront a teen driving recklessly and spraying vehicles with gravel. A driver trying to stop him, pulled ahead of the teen’s truck, and the two collided without injuries, deputies say.

When one person tried to open the teen’s door, he drove away, striking Anderson, according to the sheriff’s office.

Anderson was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver where he died, deputies report.

The teen was arrested at his house and released to a parent. Deputies say charges have not yet been determined.

The Washington State Patrol, Woodland Police Department and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office assisted. The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation is ongoing.
