SUNNYSIDE — The talents of River HomeLink’s theater students were on full display March 25 and 26 in the beloved children’s story, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Performances were held in the Prairie High School Auditorium, and the play was produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Co.
The play is based on “The Chronicles of Narnia,” a series of children’s books by author C.S. Lewis. The story follows the Pevensie children through the wardrobe of an eccentric professor and into the fantastical land of Narnia.
Narnia’s colorful cast of characters comes to life in part through the work of River HomeLink junior Rachel Prather, who has won awards for her costume designs and whose use of a 3D printer to create the lion head for the character Aslan was particularly impressive.
The school’s fall show took place in a tent set up outside Church of the Rock near the HomeLink campus. While transporting the props and costumes to the high school means more work, it was also a chance for students to get experience on a real stage, with lighting, a sound system, and a roof over their heads.
