CAMAS — It was a rough a September for the Camas football team with four tough losses against four tough teams.

But the Papermakers managed to finish the month on a strong note Thursday night.

Konner Limnell set the tone by returning the opening kick 61 yards, and the Papermakers didn’t let up, routing Battle Ground 56-6 in the 4A Greater St. Helens League game at Doc Harris Stadium.

“Obviously we were hungry for the win,” senior Jon Schultz said. “We were ready for tonight after those four tough games.”

The Papermakers knew they’d be in for a tough start, facing four ranked opponents from Oregon.

“Four tough games that we totally could have won,” Schultz said. “It’s totally different if you take away a couple of plays.”

It only took a couple of plays for Camas to take control on Thursday.

After Limnell’s return, Schultz ran for a 7-yard touchdown for a 7-0 lead two plays later.

On Camas’ second possession, Andrew Carousso caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Taylor Ioane, and the Papermakers had two touchdowns after four offensive plays.

They would lead 28-0 after the first quarter, 49-0 by halftime, sending interim head coach Jack Hathaway to his first victory.

Key moments

  • In addition to his opening kickoff, Limnell brought a second-half kickoff back for a touchdown, but it was called back by a penalty.
  • When Battle Ground forced a Camas punt in the second quarter, the ball bounced of a Tigers player and Camas recovered the ball. Two plays later, Zach Blair caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Kaiden Ries for a 42-0 lead.

Jon Schultz, Camas — The senior rushed for 43 yards and two touchdowns and returned an interception 19-yard for another score.
