Hockinson’s defense dominated, coming up with eight sacks, two forced fumbles and five interceptions, returning two for touchdowns as the Hawks posted their first win of the season in impressive fashion, 65-16 over R.A. Long on Friday.
“I think those first two losses really put a chip on our shoulder and showed us we’re not all high and mighty,” senior receiver Kenyon Johnson said. “But we really bounced back this game and we’re gonna show teams that we’re back.”
Johnson was one of seven Hawks to score a touchdown on offense. On defense, Hale Prior returned one interception for 23 yards and AJ Domingos returned another for 27 yards.
On offense, the Hawks rushed for 237 yards led by Cody Wheeler’s 89 yards on 15 carries and one touchdown.
