How Clark County College Football Players Fared, Sept. 18

Robert Meadors played a part in Simon Fraser school history on Saturday.

Simon Fraser played the first game in its first permanent on-campus home stadium. Meadors, a junior from Heritage High, scored the first Simon Fraser touchdown at Terry Fox Field.

Meadors caught a 12-yard touchdown pass to give the Clan a 7-6 lead over Central Washington in the first quarter.

Central Washington went on to win 36-14. But for a Simon Fraser program that dates back 56 years, the game still felt like a celebration in Burnaby, B.C., with 1,200 fans in attendance.

“I’m almost at a loss for words,” said SFU athletic director Theresa Hanson.  “It was a great night, it was a historic night. Everyone I spoke to today had a smile on their face, they were so proud. And they stayed despite the delay, and had a great time. That’s all we can ask for. It was such a neat thing seeing football alumni connect with their former teammates, and coaches.”

Meadors, who has been a consistent contributors since his freshman year, finished with two catches for 30 yards. He also had five kickoff returns for 88 yards with a long of 26 yards.
