Vancouver and Washougal will each host events Saturday to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The Vancouver event, titled the 9/11 Patriot Day Ceremony, is hosted by the city and the Community Military Appreciation Committee and will be held at the Vancouver Waterfront Park. The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at 695 Waterfront Way.
The event will feature the Vancouver Fire & Police Honor Guard, performances from the 204th Army Band and the Vancouver Community Concert Band, a ceremonial bell ringing and a Vancouver Veterans of Foreign Wars rifle salute, according to the city’s website.
On the river, the Vancouver Fire Department’s Discovery fire boat will perform a water spray display, and doves will be released from a World War II PT boat.
C-Tran will offer free shuttle service to the Waterfront from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. from Hudson’s Bay High School at 1601 E. McLoughlin Blvd., with return trips from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., running every 15 minutes. Parking at the high school is free.
The city’s website encourages all attendees to wear masks to the event due to the high number of COVID-19 cases in Clark County and the presence of the more-transmissible delta variant.
The city of Washougal will host a 9/11 20th Anniversary Commemoration event Saturday at Reflection Plaza, 1703 Main St. in downtown Washougal. The event will begin at 10:15 a.m. with remarks from local officials, according to the city’s Facebook page, followed by a moment of silence at 10:28 a.m., the moment when the North Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed.
