Prep roundup: Camas singles, Union doubles win 4A bi-district boys tennis titles

Three singles players and one doubles team will be representing Clark County at the 4A state boys tennis tournament in May.

Of those players, Camas’ Tommy James and Union’s doubles team of Jacob Flentke and James Bertheau will be among the top seeds after winning titles in similar fashion at the 4A bi-district tournament Saturday at Boeing Tennis Center in Kent.

James won his singles finals match over Timothy Tran of Kentridge 6-1, 6-2, while Flentke and Bertheau won the doubles title over Decatur’s Luke Dalrymple and Andy Kim 6-1, 6-2.

Flentke and Bertheau dropped just four games in the tournament.

Camas’ Aiden Brasier defeated Union’s Rohan Thawani 6-2, 6-1 for fifth place. By placing among the top eight, both advance to state.

Camas came away with the bi-district team title.

3A BI-DISTRICT — Prairie senior Elijah Nelson will be going to the 3A state tennis tournament in May as a top seed after winning the 3A bi-district title on Saturday at Sprinker Tennis Center in Kent.

Details of Saturday’s matches were not reported.

Also with a state berth locked up, Mountain View’s Trey Gillespie and Jeffrey Tso placed fourth in doubles.

Slowpitch softball

Kelso came up short in its bid for the 3A/2A state title on Saturday in Yakima.

The No. 2 seed Hilanders lost in the championship game to No. 4 University of Spokane 26-11.

R.A. Long was ousted in the third-place semifinal by Hermiston, Ore., 11-10.

Battle Ground placed fourth in the 4A state tournament. The No. 8-seeded Tigers, who eliminated Moses Lake 17-16 in the third-place semifinal on Saturday, lost to West Valley of Yakima 28-5 in the third-place final.

No. 1 seed Chiawana beat No. 7 Central Valley of Spokane 13-12 for the 4A championship.
