Prep highlights: Union wins 4A slowpitch district title

The Union Titans won the district title on Thursday, pounding out a two-game total of 27 runs.

The Titans clinched a state berth with a 19-1 win over Camas in the semifinal. They then beat Battle Ground 8-3 for the title.

Battle Ground punched its ticket to state with a 14-4 win over Skyview in the semifinals.

Union’s Maggie Tumelty had a double and home run for four RBI against Camas. Bailee Boltz and Avery Thamert both went 3 for 3 with Boltz hitting a triple and Thamert knocking in two runs. Ashley Griffith went a combined 7 for 8 from the leadoff spot.

The state tournament is scheduled for Oct. 29-30 in Yakima.

Stars of the day

Shaela Bradley, La Center girls soccer, scored a hat trick in an 8-0 win over Columbia-White Salmon.

Leanna Russell, Woodland volleyball, had a team-high nine kills and 17 digs in a sweep over Fort Vancouver.

Drew Eggleston, Union volleyball, had 14 kills and 13 digs in a 3-1 win over Heritage.

Tyra Schaub, Skyview volleyball, had 14 kills, 14 digs and two blocks in a 3-0 loss at Kelso.

Makayla Loose, Battle Ground volleyball, had 13 kills and nine aces as the Tigers beat Evergreen in five sets.

Ella Schoene, La Center volleyball, had 22 kills and 14 digs in a four-set win over Columbia-White Salmon.
