Weather Eye: Cool temperatures this week before rainy season begins

I shake my head while writing this chuckling about Sunday’s rainfall. Only a trace fell here in Vancouver. Last week we thought maybe a half inch. Then maybe a tenth of an inch. Then it fizzled like all the others this month.

We have another weak system tonight and Wednesday with a tenth of an inch expected. Beyond that, the weather appears more active toward the end of the week and weekend. There will be plenty of storm activity in the Gulf of Alaska, so we always watch for a rapid development of a storm that could cause high winds this time of the year. I don’t foresee that at this time. So just clouds, a few dribbles, some fog and cool temperatures this week. We managed 58 degrees Monday.

The bottom line is we haven’t started the “rainy” season quite yet. Sometimes it begins the last half of October, others in early November. I remember plenty of wet and blustery Halloween evenings.

The interesting thing about the weather pattern is that the storms off the coast look rather impressive but most if not all of the rain stays well to the north. Sooner or later, it will always change unless we are in some unknown pattern.

As mentioned earlier forecast models are showing the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall and windy conditions developing over or just beyond the weekend. If so, this would be the beginning of our annual rainy season. However, the models have not performed all that well so as I always say, stay tuned.
