Annual maintenance work will close both the northbound and southbound Interstate 5 Gee Creek rest areas north of Vancouver between 6 a.m. Oct. 18 and 5 p.m. Oct. 22, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

During the closure, maintenance crews will deep clean each location, repair damaged picnic areas, update landscaping and conduct routine safety inspections of the electrical and plumbing systems, according to WSDOT.

A WSDOT announcement said both rest areas are among the busiest in the state, with more than 1 million annual visitors using both facilities, a figure calculated by the number of toilet flushes.
