WOODLAND — Students and staff at North Fork Elementary School recently held a celebration tunnel for retiring head custodian Ed Sorensen. Students clapped and cheered as Principal Denise Pearl pushed Sorensen in a decorated wheelchair. Students also created cards thanking him for his work and wishing him the best in retirement, and staff presented him with a toolkit and other gifts, according to news release from Woodland Public Schools. Sorensen, who’s lived in Woodland since he was 5 years old, worked for the school district for 12 years, with the past 10 years as head custodian at North Fork. “I remember growing up with friendly janitors in my schools who looked out for me, and I thought, ‘I could do that,’” Sorensen said in a statement. “These little kids are really special — sometimes, you see a kid who just needs a friend, and I try my best to do that for every one of them.”
