Union used a heavy dose of its run game — powered by Jaydon Jones — for a 43-6 victory over Battle Ground in Thursday’s 4A Greater St. Helens League football game at District Stadium.
Jones, a senior, had a game-best 257 yards on 34 carries and scored five touchdowns. He had all but one of his team’s rushing yards and carries when he exited the game with 1 minute, 27 seconds left in the third quarter and Union’s lead at 43-6.
Jones scored on touchdown runs of 1 (twice), 3, 6 and 24 yards. He had 179 of his team’s 180 rushing yards at halftime when Union led 35-6.
Union opened the game’s scoring on a quick four-play, 73-yard scoring drive capped by Marques Cantu’s 64-yard touchdown catch from Mitch Ratigan.
