Camas Papermakers keep rolling with 38-7 win over Mountain View

To loosely quote Mark Twain, the demise of the Camas Papermakers has been greatly exaggerated.

After five tough losses to some of Oregon’s best high school teams, the Papermakers won their second straight game on Thursday night, rolling over the 3A Mountain View Thunder 38-7 in non-league action at McKenzie Stadium.

Camas (2-5 overall) got out of the gate quickly, turning two Mountain View turnovers into 10 points in the first quarter and never looked back. The Papermakers ended a dominating first half with a flourish with a 99-yard touchdown drive right before the first half ended.

Camas all but put the game away by churning out an 11-play, 80-yard drive on the first possession of the second half. Jon Schultz ran for 35 of his game-high 96 yards on that drive.

In all, Camas outgained Mountain View 423-177 in total offense. Quarterback Taylor Ioane threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown.

The Thunder (4-2 overall) came into the game ranked seventh amongst Washington state 3A schools by the Associated Press, scored their lone touchdown in the fourth quarter. Mitch Johnson threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Martin with a Camas defender in his face.

Next week Camas looks to make it three in a row but play yet another ranked opponent…this time taking on the number-one 2A team in the state, Tumwater, next Friday in Tumwater. Mountain View returns to 3A Greater St. Helens League play facing off with Prairie at District Stadium in Battle Ground.
