How Clark County College Football Players Fared, Oct. 2

Receivers from Evergreen High hit paydirt over weekend

Published: October 3, 2021, 10:08pm

Two former Evergreen High receivers have found green pastures, and the end zone, in college.

Saturday, Zyell Griffin caught his first career touchdown pass in UNLV’s 24-17 loss to Texas-San Antonio. The sophomore hauled in a 9-yarder for a score, one of three catches for 46 yards on the day.

Griffin has slid into the starting wide receiver role at UNLV. This comes after he ranked third on the team in receiving yardage during the abbreviated 2020 season.

Fellow Evergreen graduate Justice Murphy has also become a go-to receiver. The Western Oregon senior caught four passes for a season-high 71 yards, including a 19-yard touchdown pass, in a 41-38 win over West Texas A&M on Saturday.

Because Western Oregon didn’t play in 2020, Saturday’s touchdown was Murphy’s first in nearly two years. In 2019, he had at least one catch in eight games and multiple catches in five games.

Here are how other collegiate football players from Clark County fared.
