A Vancouver woman was sentenced to nearly four years in prison Tuesday for robbing a man who hired her to clean his house.
Syaira Nadine Krohn, 23, pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery in Clark County Superior Court. One charge of theft of a motor vehicle was dismissed as a part of a plea agreement.
Krohn will serve her 46-month sentence concurrent with a 15-month sentence she’s serving at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Oregon. She will be transferred to a facility in Washington for the remainder of the latest sentence.
Clark County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 8:45 a.m. Jan. 21 for a reported strong-arm robbery and theft at an apartment in the Brush Prairie area. The victim, Maikel Habib, said he was assaulted and his 2014 Honda Civic, wallet with two debit cards and two credit cards, laptop, and keys were stolen, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Habib said he hired a woman, later identified as Krohn, that he found on the internet to clean his apartment. He contacted her earlier that morning, and they made plans for him to pick her up in Portland. He then drove her back to his apartment, the affidavit says.
He said they weren’t there long when he went to another room and returned to find Krohn had let a man and woman into his apartment. They demanded his belongings, and the man threatened him with a crowbar, according to court documents.
As the trio started to leave, Habib tried to get his belongings back, he said. He got into a fight with the man at the front door and on the stairway to his apartment. The man struck Habib in the head with the crowbar, causing a bloody laceration, the affidavit says.
Video surveillance from Habib’s apartment complex showed what he described. It captured the man and woman parking a black BMW a short distance from Habib’s apartment and walking there. A few minutes later, both women are seen leaving the apartment — one goes to Habib’s Honda and the other to the BMW. Then, the man is seen sprinting from the apartment to the BMW. Both cars drive off, according to the affidavit.
Habib said Krohn told him if he called the police, the man would shoot him. She then showed him a photo on her phone of a person who had been shot, court records say.
Krohn was arrested later that day at the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Evidence Unit in Troutdale, Ore. She had told Habib that she had a noon appointment to pick up some property. He subsequently positively identified her as the woman he picked up for the cleaning.
Krohn’s accomplices were not identified in the affidavit.
