Weather Eye: Our current pattern: 2 days of rain, 2 days of no rain

We enjoyed two more days without measurable rainfall Tuesday and Wednesday. That will end today as more rain will fall into Friday. I expect a half-inch to 1 inch by Friday night, when it clears off. Those of you near the foothills, of course, could see higher amounts.

Vancouver officially had the first freeze of the season Wednesday, with a 32-degree low temperature. Some of you dropped into the 20s, and some even reported freezing fog. East winds developed and were quite gusty, especially in east county and along the Columbia River.

After the rain today and Friday, we should enjoy two more days of no rain. It appears we are temporarily stuck in this two-days-on, two-days-off regimen. No complaints. It’s better than rain every day, right?

Our monthly total here in Vancouver as of Wednesday evening was 4.85 inches. We will surpass 5 inches easily later today.

Vancouver’s high temperature Wednesday was exactly average for the date: 53 degrees. (On Nov. 17, 1955, we had a high of 28 degrees and a low of 16 degrees. That is extreme for mid-November.)

There is no cold or lowland snow in the offing for as far as I can strain the old weather eye.

Looking into the week of Thanksgiving, the weather looks rather mundane — maybe some light rain late Monday and Tuesday. Thanksgiving Day and the big shopping day afterward appear mild and dry at this point.

No concerns for holiday travelers, as it looks right now. Of course, that can quickly change this time of the year, so we’ll review the holiday outlook in Sunday’s column.

With the dry weather, this weekend would be an ideal opportunity to place outdoor holiday decorations. It will be cold again in the early morning hours, with frost prevalent in many locations. There may be some fog as well.

The month is zipping along, and the slowdown in the weather department is appreciated. It looks rather dim for ski season to begin Thanksgiving weekend unless we have a miracle on 34th Street of sorts. Take care.
