The Camas and Skyview volleyball teams face off at 1 p.m. at Curtis Junior High School in University Place for a spot in the 4A state tournament.
The two 4A Greater St. Helens League rivals both advanced on Thursday through loser-out games. No. 9 seed Skyview took out No. 1 seed Emerald Ridge in five sets, while No. 4 Camas finished late Thursday by eliminating No. 12 Bellarmine in four games.
The winner of the Camas-Skyview game moves into the fifth-place final at 5 p.m. against either Mount Rainier or Puyallup at Curtis High School. Both teams that advance will earn state berths. The losers will play for seventh place, but with no automatic state berth on the line.
1A STATE — King’s Way Christian stayed alive in the seventh-place bracket at Yakima with a big comeback win in a loser-out match.
The Knights rallied from two sets down to beat College Place in five 24-26, 18-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-6.
They will play Charles Wright in the seventh-place semifinal at 11 a.m. today.
3A state football
O’DEA 52, KELSO 13 — The Irish of Seattle had too much in the backfield for the Hilanders as they cruised to the first-round victory at Seattle Memorial Stadium.
O’Dea had two 100-yard rushers to account for its 378 total rushing yards.
Kahlil Holiday had nine carries for 111 yards and two TDs, and Christian Winn had 105 yards on 10 carries and two TDs.
Kelso scored in third quarter on Hunter Letteer’s 30-yard pass to Zeke Smith.
Then in the fourth quarter, Letteer threw an 8-yard pass to Smith who then pitched it to Conner Noah who finished off the play with a 55-yard run to the end zone.
Noah had 97 yards rushing on 13 carries for Kelso.
State girls swimming
4A MEET — Union’s Annette Chang qualified for four finals after finishing in the top 8 during preliminary rounds at Federal Way.
Chang was second-fastest in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.09 seconds, and was fifth in the 100 free at 53.24. She also qualified as part of Union’s 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.
Campbell Deringer of Camas will be in the 100 breaststroke final after posting the fourth-fastest time of 1:05.39.
2A MEET — Columbia River’s Jane Tewinkle made the final of the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.84, which was seventh, and 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.23, also seventh.
