Prep volleyball: King’s Way, Castle Rock reach 1A district final

The King’s Way Christian and Castle Rock volleyball teams will square off Saturday in the final of the 1A district playoffs.

Both teams won twice on Wednesday to reach the district final and clinch spots at the 1A state tournament in Yakima.

King’s Way first had to outlast Montesano in a five-set match, and then beat La Center in the semifinal 3-1.

Castle Rock swept its way into the final, beating Tenino and Hoquiam 3-0.

La Center needs to win two loser-out matches on Saturday in order to qualify for state.

Stars of the day

  • Alexis Echols, Evergreen volleyball, had nine kills and four blocks as the Plainsmen came back from two sets down to beat Heritage 3-2.
  • Kenna Salavea, Heritage volleyball, had 23 kills, 25 digs and five blocks in the Timberwolves’ loss.
