The rainfall this week was nice. In some locations it was heavy and in other areas on the light side. At the official rain gauge in Vancouver, we received slightly over one-half of an inch. I saw other reports out in Battle Ground and in our foothills of over an inch of rain and even 2 inches. That is the way it is with a showery weather pattern.
Our total so far this month, as of midday Wednesday, is .90 of an inch, which is still about 1 inch below average. With showers today, we will add about a quarter of an inch. If a heavy downpour appears, maybe more. The main rain belt will be to our north. And that will be it for May unless we get a stray shower on Friday.
Beyond today the big news is the warm-up coming over the holiday weekend. By Memorial Day we will be in the mid-80s, and the day after that we’ll be pushing 90 degrees. Next week looks dry and warm. You will have to keep watering the lawn and garden.
I mentioned here the other day about memories of wet Memorial Day weekends. On a bright memory, Memorial Day weekend in 2017 was a hot one, at least Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We had 84-, 90- and 85-degree highs those days. Memorial Day had morning clouds and a high of 72 degrees.
