Although there was no high school boys golf championship this spring, Graham Moody can still lay claim to being the state’s best.

The Mountain View senior was the individual champion at the Washington Junior Golf Association School Team Championship this week in Olympia.

The WJGA organized a de facto state championship Tuesday and Wednesday at Tumwater Valley. Ninety golfers from 27 high schools took part in the event

Moody shot 7-under, including a blistering 5-under 67 on Wednesday. That put him five strokes clear of runner-up James Lazar of Lakeside (Seattle).

Moody won his third consecutive district championship in March. The Wisconsin signee won the 3A state championship as a freshman and finished third as a sophomore. COVID-19 wiped out the WIAA boys golf state championships in 2020 and 2021.

Eli Huntington of Camas finished tied for third at 1-under. His brother Owen Huntington was 2-over, tied for 11th.

Teams of three also competed for honors. The Mountain View threesome of eighth graders Grady Millar and Spencer Moody and ninth grader Alex Rigby finished fourth at 18-over, seven shots behind the winning team from Redmond.

Mountain View’s Graham Moody, Willy Yeh and Tyler Klepec placed sixth at 21-over.

The Camas team of Owen Huntington, Eli Huntington and Drew Scott was 10th at 26-over.
