CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, seeks volunteers to advocate for the best interest of children who have come into the state’s care as a result of abuse, neglect or abandonment. Advocates make a lifelong difference in the life of a child and are often the one consistent adult in the child’s life. Volunteers are empowered to represent a child’s voice in court after extensive training that prepares them for the role. To learn more, join a one-hour information session. Schedules and registration links are available at casaclarkcounty.org.
The Vancouver Police Department invites local pet owners to sign up for a brand-new micro-volunteer program, Paws on Patrol. Volunteers are encouraged to practice awareness while out walking their pets, reporting suspicious activities and getting to know neighbors and neighborhoods. People without pets are welcome to register, too. Volunteers must complete an online registration and watch a short training video. No background check or minimum volunteer hours are required.
