We finally had some measurable rain here in Vancouver Monday with .22 of an inch accumulating. That brings our monthly total to a third of an inch, which is about 1¼ inches below average. I looked at the Clark County rainfall amounts and most had a little over a tenth of an inch, but Vancouver had the most thanks to a heavy noontime shower.
On Tuesday we had plenty of puffy towering clouds, but the showers were widely scattered and as of 5 p.m. none brought any measurable rain to the rain gauge at Pearson Field. With the sunny skies and cool air mass overhead, Vancouver struggled to reach 61 degrees as the high temperature Wednesday. Remember, our average high is 70 degrees.
The strong northwest winds in the late afternoon and evening hours Wednesday coupled with temperatures in the mid- to upper 50s made it feel much colder. Sweatshirt weather I’d say. More cool temperatures today and a chance of rain showers almost anywhere. Isolated thunderstorms could be here and there, as well as hail. It will all settle down after sunset.
As skies cleared late Tuesday night, most outlying locations dropped into the 30s. Tyler Mode of Battle Ground reported 34 degrees, his coldest for so late in the spring season. Undoubtedly there was scattered frost in the colder locations. Vancouver officially recorded 40 degrees.
