The details of a new zoning district in central Vancouver are on track to be reviewed in a series of public hearings.

The Vancouver City Council endorsed the advancement of the new Heights District in a workshop Monday.

City staff will next present the proposed Heights Mixed-Use zoning district and development standards to the Planning Commission in a public hearing June 8. They’ll then bring it before the Vancouver City Council for final review and another public hearing afterward, on a date yet to be determined.

The Heights District is a triangular, 205-acre region bordered by East Mill Plain Boulevard to the north, MacArthur Boulevard to the south and west, and Andresen Road to the east.

Details of the Heights Mixed-Use zoning code under review include building heights, setbacks, parking requirements, residential versus commercial ground-level uses and construction of accessory dwelling units.

“We are excited to enter the next phase of bringing the innovative Heights District project to fruition,” Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle said in a media release. “After a robust community engagement and planning process, the city is ready to move forward with a plan rooted in equity and neighborhood livability that serves the needs of Vancouver’s diverse communities.”
