Recently appointed Vancouver Public Schools Board Director Sandra Zavala-Ortega has announced her candidacy for Position 2.

“I am excited to continue working with the School Board and (incoming superintendent) Dr. (Jeff) Snell to bring our children back to school and improve the education experience for all students in the district,” Zavala-Ortega said. “I bring a unique perspective and life experience to the School Board.”

Zavala-Ortega was appointed to the school board April 13 to fill the vacant seat left by board director Camara Banfield, who resigned in January after her appointment to the Clark County Superior Court. The Position 2 term expires in 2021.

Since her announcement seeking election, Zavala-Ortega said she has received an outpouring of community support and encouragement.

“I appreciate all the community support I have received since I was appointed last month,” she said.

Zavala-Ortega is a parent of a current VPS student, a local business owner, and a graduate of Fort Vancouver High School.
