ESTHER SHORT – Ireland’s flag was raised in front of the Clark County courthouse to commemorate St. Patrick’s Day on March 17, as well as Denny Lane, the city’s first constable.
Lane had the tradition of raising the flag for 30 years. Though he died in 1966, his family and friends have continued the tradition. Each year on “Denny’s Day,” the public is invited to celebrate on the south lawn of the courthouse. This year’s event was organized by Lane’s grandson Terry Klein.
“We do this to honor my grandfather Denny, who made his home here for scores of years,” Klein said. “He was a loyal son of Ireland and proud adopted son of America.”
