Clark County recorded 37 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths Friday as disease activity rose slightly after holding steady for two weeks, according to data from Clark County Public Health.

The new cases push the county’s total to 19,204, according to Public Health data. There were 258 new cases reported in the seven days ending Friday, an average of about 37 cases a day. That’s up from an average of about 34 cases a day in the previous two weeks and about 29 cases a day in the seven days ending March 5.

While case numbers hit a plateau this month and rose slightly this week, they are still far below the mid-winter peak of about 180 cases per day experienced during the first week of January.

With no new deaths reported Friday, the total number of people who died due to COVID-19 held steady at 241. There were five deaths reported in the seven days ending Friday, down from seven the previous week but up from a single death the week before. Deaths are usually added to the county’s tally 10 to 12 days after they occur.

Active cases rose Friday, with 295 people still in their isolation period, up from 267 on Thursday, according to Public Health data.

Hospitalizations also rose. There were 22 people hospitalized with COVID-19 on Friday, up from 18 on Thursday, and nine people hospitalized awaiting test results, up from three on Thursday.

Public Health reported that 5.4 percent of the county’s licensed hospital beds were occupied by people with or suspected of having COVID-19, up from 3.6 percent Thursday.
