Internet TV company Locast is expanding service to the Portland and Southwest Washington region, the company announced Thursday.

Locast operates by rebroadcasting local stations online, allowing users to view local TV channels by streaming them to internet-connected devices rather than tuning in over the airwaves with a traditional TV antenna.

The company will provide free access to 39 local TV channels in the Portland market area including KGW NBC 8, KPTV FOX 12, KATU ABC 2, KOIN CBS 6, PBS, Telemundo, Univision, CourtTV, TrueCrime and The CW
