BATTLE GROUND — Mountain View broke open a close game with 20 straight points and overcame a huge game from Battle Ground’s Leithan Reynolds in a 4A/3A Greater St. Helens League win at District Stadium.
Reynolds rushed for 196 yards and his 20-yard touchdown run pulled the Tigers (0-3) to within two, 14-12, halfway through the third quarter. But then the Thunder (3-1) scored on its next two possessions which sandwiched a 16-yard interception return for a touchdown by Mountain View’s Kevin Chen.
Both teams had potent rushing attacks. Battle Ground rushed for 291 yards and Mountain View amassed 269 yards. In addition to the 196 yards by Reynolds, Reid Schneider ran for 103 yards for the Tigers and a touchdown.
Next week the Thunder take on Evergreen while Battle Ground goes up against Union. Both teams play on Tuesday.
