Clark County reported 26 new COVID-19 cases – capping off the lowest number of cases since September – but five new deaths in the latest data from Clark County Public Health.
The fatalities a man in his 40s, a man age 80 or older, and three women age 80 or older, according to Public Health data. All had underlying health conditions.
The deaths were the first reported since Feb. 26. They increased the total number of deaths from COVID-19 to 228.
Public Health announced the deaths as its new case totals showed a continued decline in disease activity in Clark County. The new cases bring the county’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 18,467 to date.
The county reported a total of 205 cases this week, which works out to an average of about 29 cases per day. The average daily case count hasn’t been at that level since the week ending Sept. 18. The highest rate of new cases occurred in the first week of the year, with about 180 new cases per day.
The number of active cases, which measures people with COVID-19 who are still in their isolation period, remained steady at 236 on Friday, according to Public Health data.
Hospitalizations for diagnosed COVID-19 cases dipped to 15 on Friday, from 19 on Thursday, and hospitalizations of people awaiting test results rose to five from one on Thursday, according to Public Health data.
Public Health reported that 68.8 percent of the county’s ICU beds were occupied on Friday, a statistic used to track the health system’s ability to cope with potential case surges. The county also reported that 3.5 percent of the county’s licensed hospital beds were occupied by people with or suspected of having COVID-19.
