The Port of Vancouver announced Monday that it has completed work on the Parcel 3 Berm project, a 12-foot tall, roughly 3,500-foot long earthen berm to the south of the Vancouver Lake Flushing Channel at the west end of the port’s property, following about two years of construction.
The berm is intended to act as a visual and sound buffer between the 450-acre port-owned Columbia Gateway property and the adjacent 540-acre Crane’s Landing property, which the port donated to the Columbia Land Trust in 2016, according to a press release on the port’s website. The Trust is managing the property as a feeding and foraging site for migratory species such as sandhill cranes.
The Columbia Gateway property is located directly west of the port’s Terminal 5 site, and the Port plans to develop it for industrial uses.
