Woman killed while walking on Interstate 5 in Woodland

A woman was struck and killed while walking on Interstate 5 near Dike Road in Woodland, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash occurred at 8:45 p.m. in the freeway’s southbound lanes. A State Patrol bulletin said John R. Samples, 69, of Olympia was driving in the center lane when his 2019 Lexus RX struck the woman.

The woman died at the scene, according to the bulletin, which said her name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Samples was not injured in the crash but was transported to St. John Medical Center in Longview, the bulletin said.
