All I can say is that July has been a pleasant month weather-wise, warm but not hot and of course continued dry. This month is usually a dry month anyway so not surprising we see no rain heading our way. With more marine low clouds today and Friday some locales could have a trace or so of drizzle.
That’s about it moisture-wise. Saturday skies clear and we see a return to the 80s into next week. Today and Friday we remain below 80 degrees. Cooler temperatures will seep east of the Cascades but also gusty westerly winds. Mixed blessings for the wildfires. So far, we keep thunderstorms out of the forecast but if the hot cell of weather over the four corners region shifts too far westward that could pose a threat once again.
I have last month’s rainfall to share with you on Sunday. Rain? Did you forget we had rain last month? That excessive historic heat wave could have erased those memories.
We are two weeks into the month and the average mean temperature in Vancouver is 71 degrees, about 3 degrees above normal. Last year at this date Vancouver was running 1.5 degrees below average. Still no rainfall this month. We have gone 30 days without measurable rainfall.
Memorable dry spells here in Vancouver include June 23, 1967 through Sept. 1, 1967, when we went 71 consecutive days without measurable rainfall. Other dusty conditions occurred in 1984 with 62 consecutive dry days, 1960 with 55 days, 1952 with 53 days, 1985 with 52 days, 1981 with 47 days, 1998 with 46 days, 1993 with 42 days, and 1990 with 41 days.
