A former member of the Vancouver City Council died Monday evening after he crashed into the back of a semitruck parked on the shoulder of a highway in Eastern Oregon, according to the Oregon State Police.

Michael Wilson, 65, was driving his Lincoln MKX around 7:30 p.m. west on Interstate 84 near Milepost 187, south of Hermiston, Ore., when he crashed into the back of the semitruck and trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the state police.

No one in the semitruck was injured, state police said.

State police were assisted by the Stanfield Police Department, Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon Department of Transportation and Umatilla County Fire District No. 1.

Wilson served on the Vancouver City Council from 1990 to 1997. He was most recently a senior associate at Westby Associates in Vancouver. He had worked earlier at Innovative Services Northwest, according to his LinkedIn profile.
