A Battle Ground man was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault after a two-vehicle injury crash late Sunday in Hockinson, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred shortly after 10 p.m. in the 17200 block of Northeast 159th Street, according to a sheriff’s office statement. Jaxon L. Jondahl, 20, was driving east at what appears to be an excessive speed and crashed his 2009 Chevrolet HHR into the rear of a 1995 Toyota Camry that had turned from Northeast 172nd Avenue to head east on 159th.

The collision caused both vehicles to leave the road, and the Camry rolled onto its top, the statement said.

The driver of the Camry, Nicholas A.W. Crown, 35, of Hockinson was found unresponsive in the wreckage and had to to be extricated by emergency personnel from Clark County Fire District 3, according to the statement.

According to the sheriff’s office, both Crown and Jondahl were transported to a hospital, where Jondahl was taken into custody and booked into Clark County Jail on the vehicular assault allegation. Additional misdemeanor charges of DUI, driving while suspended and violating ignition interlock device rules have been referred to prosecutors.

The statement said the crash appears to have been caused by excessive speed. It also said Jondahl was impaired.

Northeast 159th Street was closed for several hours following the crash and reopened a little after 4 a.m., the statement said.
