ESTHER SHORT — When 10-year-old Chloe Daarud told her mother, Kristina Walsh-Daarud, she wanted to donate $50 to a good cause, her mother gave her an idea. Walsh-Daarud previously was on the board of FISH of Vancouver, a nonprofit dedicated to providing free food to those in need. Chloe then decided to donate there. Walsh-Daarud was so inspired that she decided to match funds — then told her employer, LSW Architects, which then also matched funds. “I was so inspired, I told Chloe when she came to drop by the donation that I was going to donate $50 as well,” said the organization’s executive director, James Fitzgerald. Next thing he knew, several of the organization’s board members decided to donate. The donation amount has since grown to $1,000, Fitzgerald said. “Maybe it will inspire others in the community to keep Chloe’s donation going and growing.”
