VANCOUVER — Harold “Harry” R. Chaffee, 75, died at his Vancouver home on Jan. 17. Known as the “Candy Man,” Chaffee was a food broker and owned the S&L Brokerage firm in Vancouver, representing many brands of candy, including Trolli Gummi candies, Bob’s Candy Canes and the Sweets brand. Chaffee spent much of his life volunteering, including helping facilitate a land acquisition for Hazel Dell Little League. A field was named after Chaffee. “Harry loved coaching kids baseball teams and would always have a trunk full of candy,” his son Mike Chaffee said in an email. He was also known for dressing up as Santa in December, visiting local schools, homeless shelters and jails to spread Christmas spirit. “He never wanted any recognition and he did it because he loved people and those people loved him. The smiles where payment enough. Rest in peace, Candy Man,” Mike Chaffee said.
