VANCOUVER — The Boys & Girls Clubs in Vancouver recently worked with Comcast to establish “Lift Zones” to help low-income families connect to the internet while students learn remotely. The initiative will provide free connectivity in different community centers over the next three years. The Lift Zones are at The Heights O.K.2 Clubhouse, 500 Council Bluff Way; The Clinton & Gloria Johns Clubhouse, 409 N.E. Anderson Road; and the Teen Turf Club, 4040 Plomondon St. “The Lift Zones can remove roadblocks to internet access for many of our kids, providing the resources they need to stay current in their academics,” Francisco Bueno, executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington, said in a news release. “The COVID-19 crisis continues to put many low-income students at risk of being left behind, accelerating the need for comprehensive digital equity and internet adoption programs to support them,” said David Tashjian, regional vice president, Comcast Oregon/Southwest Washington. Comcast also announced that it is extending its offer of 60 days of free internet access to low-income customers and free access to all outdoor WiFi hotspots until June 30.
