Clark County recorded seven new deaths from COVID-19, pushing the weekly death toll to 16 even as the pace of new cases continues to decline.
The fatalities included four men age 80 or older, one woman in her 70s, one woman in her 60s, and one man in his 40s, according to Clark County Public Health. All seven had underlying conditions.
Their deaths bring the county’s total deaths from COVID-19 to 182 since the pandemic began last March. The number of deaths this week was significantly higher than the previous three weeks, during which six people died per week, according to Public Health data.
Further details about those who died were not immediately available.
The deaths come as the total number of new cases continues to ebb from a peak earlier this month. Public Health reported 117 new cases Friday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in Clark County to 16,856.
There was an average of about 94 new cases per day since Jan. 22, down from about 118 per day for the previous week, 145 in the week ending Jan. 15 and a peak of about 180 in the week ending Jan. 8, according to Public Health data.
There were 689 active cases still in their isolation period Friday, up from 647 on Thursday, according to Public Health data.
Hospitalizations held steady, with 50 people hospitalized with COVID-19, up from 47 on Thursday, and seven people hospitalized awaiting test results, down from 10 on Thursday.
Public Health reported that 89.1 percent of the county’s licensed ICU beds were occupied as of Friday, down slightly from 92.2 percent on Thursday. Those beds were not necessarily occupied by patients with COVID-19. Public Health reported that 9.9 percent of licensed hospital beds in Clark County were occupied by patients with or suspected of having COVID-19, the same as on Thursday.
