Snow mixed with rain has begun falling in Clark County as a winter weather system moves into the region. Forecasters are predicting it will keep falling through early Wednesday morning.

Snow began coming down in the Vancouver area about 2:30 p.m., in advance of predictions from a previous winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service. Wet snow is expected, with total snow accumulations of up to 2 inches in some parts of the greater Portland-metro area, with less than an inch of snow forecast at lower elevations and gusty winds up to 35 mph.

Forecasters said the heaviest precipitation is expected from early evening through midnight, with snow levels around 500 feet early this evening before rising to 1,000 feet overnight.

Snow could begin to accumulate on roads at above 500 feet, prompting forecasters to suggest drivers seek alternate routes if traveling in areas above 500 feet and in rural eastern Clark County.
