Before time slips away, let’s review rainfall from December while we are at it.

Rainfall from your friends and neighbors. Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 14.61 inches; Rob Starr, Cougar, 15.82 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 5.77 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 5.49 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 5.97 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 6.75 inches; Bob Mode, Minnehaha, 4.89 inches; Dave Campbell, one mile west of Heisson, 8.49 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 8.29 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 7.54 inches; Irv St. Germain, Prune Hill, 6.43 inches; Larry Lebsack, Barberton area, 6.38 inches; Murphy Dennis, Rawson Road, 9.69 inches; Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 8.08 inches and Mike near Fargher Lake, 8.45 inches. The rainfall for Vancouver was 5.41 inches, 1.36 inches below average.

Rainfall for January is already ahead of last month, so we are looking good in that department. We could use more snow in the mountains and a little bit is on the way. A weak weather system moves through today with little moisture. Friday and Saturday look like fair weather days.

A colder trough of low pressure arrives Saturday night and Sunday. Snow levels are low so what snow falls in the ski areas will be nice, dry powder. Snow locally? Looking at everything Wednesday afternoon, I don’t see any whitening of the ground here in the city. Our foothills may get wet snow at times through early next week. There isn’t even cold air anywhere to help produce a general snowfall at lower elevations.

With the coldest air aloft arriving Sunday night through Tuesday, if we have enough moisture to produce a few heavy showers then, yeah, we see snowflakes in the air. For now, I keep all sticking snow above 1,000 feet.

Of course, often our snow here in the city arrives with short notice. Unless of course we are deep in arctic air, which we will not be this go around. Main message is colder weather with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s and 30s. We dipped to 28 degrees here in Vancouver Wednesday morning, our coldest since 26 degrees on Dec. 29.

Keep warm and safe. Maybe things will have evolved when we chat on Sunday.
