Vancouver Public Schools currently has 27 candidates for the superintendent’s job, one day before the application process officially closed.
Steve Lowder, lead consultant for search firm McPherson and Jacobson, updated school board directors Tuesday of what surveys and stakeholder groups say they want in their new district leader. Lowder said what stood out from surveys is wanting the new leader to address issues on students of color and poverty within the district.
“Those are very important to everyone,” Lowder told the board Tuesday.
Lowder also concluded the search is on course. Candidate screening by the search firm is done through Feb. 15, and top candidates will go through interviews and public forums in mid-February.
Superintendent Steve Webb announced his retirement effective July 1, 2022 from the district. The new superintendent resumes duties July 1, 2021.
