The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a flood watch for portions of Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington, including the greater Vancouver area.

The watch, which is in place tonight through Wednesday morning, includes the Cascades and Cascade foothills, Coast Range and Willapa Hills, Columbia River Gorge, Willamette Valley and greater Portland-metro area, Lower Columbia and Interstate 5 corridor in Cowlitz County, northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington Coast.

In its release, the NWS says, “excessive rainfall could lead to river flooding as well as flooding of small streams and urban areas. Heavy rain could result in land slides, and debris flows are possible across burned areas.”

Four to 8 inches of rain is expected in some areas, according to the NWS. Snow levels will be above 6,000 feet, and snow melt may contribute to excessive run off.
