A train derailed from its tracks along Oregon 99E and the Willamette River early Wednesday in Clackamas County, authorities say.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said it appears 15 train cars went off their tracks in the incident, which happened in the community of New Era between Canby and Oregon City. No hazardous materials were affected, according to the agency.

An engineer complained of pain, deputies said, but no serious injuries were reported.

Authorities initially responded to the derailment at 1:30 a.m. Oregon 99E was closed between Canby and Oregon City until about 3 a.m.

Only the highway’s southbound, right lane remained closed later Wednesday morning.

No information about what caused the train to derail was released early Wednesday. Union Pacific Railroad authorities and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
