EUGENE, Ore. — The Register-Guard announced Wednesday, printing and packaging of The Register-Guard products will move to The Columbian Publishing Company in Vancouver and will close its production facilities in Eugene.

The last issue printed in Eugene will be March 7 for the March 8 edition. On March 8, the first issue will be printed in Vancouver for the March 9 edition.

The Register-Guard is working to connect the 49 full- and part-time employees affected with local resources to assist with seeking new employment, and opportunities will be made available to them, if possible, at other locations.

The Register-Guard news and advertising teams will remain in Eugene.

“Where our newspaper is printed will not change our pursuit of great journalism and our commitment to serving our readers, advertisers and communities,” Register-Guard Managing Editor Michelle Maxwell said.

The Register-Guard is owned by Gannett, the parent company for USA TODAY NETWORK, which is composed of USA TODAY and 260 daily brands, serving 46 states and Guam.

Production partnerships have become common in the news industry, and Gannett has contracted to produce newspapers for other companies across the U.S. The outsourcing of production and packaging services in Eugene creates operational savings and will help fund investments in journalism and developing growth business as the company builds a sustainable product and business model.
