The rate of new COVID-19 cases in Clark County continued its decline over the holiday weekend, dropping to an average of about 35 new cases a day. One new death was reported.

Clark County Public Health reported the fatality was a man age 80 or older with underlying conditions. His death pushes the total number of deaths from COVID-19 to 213. Ten deaths were reported last week.

The county recorded 142 new cases since Friday, lifting the total number of Clark County COVID-19 cases to 17,877 to date. The average of 35.5 new cases a day since Friday is down from last week’s average of about 48 cases per day, according to Public Health data.

That decline was reflected in the county’s COVID-19 activity level, which fell to 209.8 new cases per 100,000 population in 14 days, pushing the county deeper into the “moderate” range of disease activity for school reopening guidance.

The rate had been 262.2 cases per 100,000 over 14 days as of last week, down from a peak of 473.7 cases per 100,000 as of Jan. 18. “Moderate” activity level ranges from 50 to 350 cases per 100,000 people in 14 days.

There were 268 active COVID-19 cases reported Tuesday by Public Health, down from 351 on Friday, counting people with COVID-19 still in their isolation period.

There were 33 hospitalized in Clark County with COVID-19, unchanged from Friday, and three people were hospitalized awaiting test results, down from six on Friday, according to Public Health data.
